Naked Amaretto Australian Almond

Next time you’re adding a few to that bottom-kitchen-draw collection reach for these hand-silk-screened numbers the colour of oat milk, drawn by Ewyenper Atwatye artists from Alice Springs. There’ll be reunions of people who’ve not seen each other in months, people flying solo, people mending from the year that was.
Set in the backstreets of Melbourne’s eclectic Brunswick neighbourhood, Ben and Andrew designed and built a distillery big enough to match their dreams, but small enough to remain hands on where it matters. With the help of family and friends, the distillery was built over mr banks ivy league an 18 month period. It features a six metre high continuous column still, designed and built in-house, as well as a bespoke Copper Pot still. Early Scotch-Irish settlers in the USA used rye to make whiskey because barley didn’t adapt to the North American climate.

It is this pristine water that flows from the mountain reserves that forms the main ingredient of the whisky produced. Quality malt, Tasmanian honey and oak barrels refashioned by Tasmania’s renowned cooper, charred to specification, all assist in providing flavours during the ageing process.
The master distiller techniques and the ageing process, reveal and achieve the full rich botanical flavours providing a unique taste. The amber liquid has a light start with balanced oak characters, revealing the port and sherry overtones from the refilled barrels used. It is soft and sweet, with layers of citrus and has a spiced finish which gives it full expression showing its eloquence and giving it character, putting it into a class of its own. Born in Brunswick, Melbourne, culture and creativity is intrinsic to our attitude and weaved in to our spirit. We seek to shine a light on the creative community that inspires us. The Gospel wider team are an experienced group of wine makers and brewers, all of whom have a fierce love for deliciously unpretentious rye whiskey.

But it was a shame not to be able to buy a locally made one, so we decided to take matters into our own hands and make the first Australian-made Amaretto. For sweetening, they have used a mix of brown and white Australian cane sugar. They don't add any artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. We've been big fans of Amaretto and its marzipan flavour since as far back as we can remember.
These conditions are also true for the dry climate of Australia, where we set out to reimagine this original American spirit using 100% Australian rye. Our mature Straight Rye Whiskey mellowed for a further 4 months in a 9 year Tawny Fortified Wine barrel from Dutschke Wines, a family operated Barossa winery. 44°N encapsulates exquisite energy of Cade, Mimosa, Centifolia and Immortelle, combining modern gin distilling methods with cutting edge perfume extraction technology. On the palate you’ll be greeted with an explosion of marzipan flavour thanks to a generous infusion of bitter almonds. It’s thick, decadent and syrup-like with plenty of sweetness (although short of ‘visit the dentist’ type of sweet). On the nose you’ll detect thick marzipan notes but also a smattering of floral and herbal aromas, thanks in part to the addition of Strawberry Gum. On the palate you'll be greeted with an explosion of marzipan flavour thanks to a generous infusion of bitter almonds. It's thick, decadent and syrup-like with plenty of sweetness (although short of 'visit the dentist' type of sweet). On the finish, you'll experience a long drawn-out ending with brown sugar playing a key role in the length. Its flavours will dance around on your tongue like a house party into the wee hours of the morning.
